ABC Cancels All My Children AND One Life to Live!

BIG NEWS OF THE DAY!

All My Children and One Life To Live have officially been CANCELED by ABC TV.   So, now what do fans do?  Tell us your thoughts about what you think will happen next?  Is General Hospital in jeopardy?  How about Y&R or Days of Our Lives?  Maybe Oprah Winfrey should consider picking up ALL of the Soap Operas on TV today (and even some that have already met their fate) and bring them to the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

We want to hear what you, the fans and our customers, think about this devastating news to America's favorite TV past time.  Please use caution when commenting.  We know you're upset, but keep the language in check please    Let your voices be heard by commenting below!

I am appalled by the lack of consideration for the viewers of soaps by the network officials who want to be rid of the soaps. These people obviously do not know how important these shows are to everyone. These were the true training grounds for many of our brightest stars that we have today.

For many people soaps are better entertainment than what is on in prime time.

I love my soaps and will follow them to the OWN network if Oprah decides to have them. I will not watch any more inane reality shows (I am sick of them). These do not give hope or family just ridiculous situations and violence.

Soaps take us to another place where we can see success, happiness, tragedy, etc. which will help us handle what we have to face in life. Please no more game shows or news shows. By removing the soaps, these cancellation decision-makers will have not given consideration to what will happen to the workers. I am not talking just about the ones on camera but the workers behind the scenes which make our soaps possible. The camera people, the dressers, the directors, writers, etc. who work extremely hard for their money. In an economy which screams about lack of jobs, the ones who cancel these shows show a lack of consideration for the audience who love their shows. I will not support sponsors who support these decisions. We can thank those who in their narrow-mindedness have chosen to send more houses into foreclosure, increase the unemployment line, increase those who need food stamps, those who will lose their and their family's health insurance thus putting more burdens on the middle class. One does not see other countries doing away with their soaps-no they support them. Years ago, soaps were only on the radio perhaps we might have to go revisit that aspect.

I thank all of you who worked on our soaps. I wish you all the best. I and many others will miss you.

We have written ABC executives directly on behalf of ALL the loyal customers at Soap Opera Jewelry and appreciate your continued support of our company, confidence in our products and fond appreciation for our level of customer service.   Trust us when we say that if we, as a small women-owned business, could in any way change the mind of the powers-that-be at ABC and Disney, we would do that it a General Hospital heartbeat!

Keep your comments coming -- the more voices that are heard, the more power that the public and the loyal fans have to help with the efforts to keep our beloved soap operas on daytime TV.

I have been watching various soap operas since I was a little girl. I have religiously been watching "The Young & The Restless", "All My Children", "One Life To Live", & "General Hospital" since they first began. Since I work or have various errands every day, I tape them daily. & I watch them at night, when I usually have no interruptions. I look forward to watching these shows every day. They are very important to me, as well as very comforting & relaxing for me. Also, I feel like they are an extended part of my family. & I will be very devastated if they are cancelled! They have srories that are educational & heartwarming & touching! So, I hope & pray they will be here forever! There will be a lot of unhappy soap opera fans if these shows are cancelled! & I definitely will be one of them! Please, Please, Please reconsider cancelling these shows!!! Sincerely, Huge soap opera fan, Cindy Bourdeau*

      Cindy,
We could not agree with you more!  Soap Opera Jewelry was as caught-off-guard as the entire nation (and world, for that matter!) when the announcement came about these cancellations.  The original foundation of our company was based on our owners love for their own favorite "taped-every-day" soap opera!

Therefore, we are as disappointed as you that ABC & Disney have decided to cancel two of daytime's oldest running soaps.  Unfortunately, Soap Opera Jewelry is in no way affiliated with either ABC, Disney or SoapNet (all owned by Disney) and was not asked our opinion prior to the demise of these time-honored favorites.

We are forever hopeful that some business minded individual with a network affiliation of their own will see the fans continued support and love (including yours!) and pick up these soap operas for daily (or even weekly) airing.

      Warmest regards,
      Soap Opera Jewelry

I think it is appalling for the soaps to be canceled. Mother is 88 and has been watching GH and OLTL for many years. This her only daytime tv watching. I know there are many others her age also upset. May all the new tv shows put in their time slots fail!!

We agree 100% with your comments.  Here at SOJ, we have built our entire foundation around Soap Operas and their longevity in the television marketplace.  We also find it sad that the executives at ABC Disney have determined that smaller budget, less interesting shows are the way of the future.  Please know that SOJ has zero connection to ABC Disney or any of its affiliates and we back your sentiments completely.
